Women’s Day Celebration
9th August 2010 – Enlighten Education Trust hosted a table at the women's day breakfast organised by the Mayor's wife.
Magriet Peter's theme of a Green table was a hit and the Enlighten flame stood out in a huge way in the Sandbaai stall.
Thanks to Christine Ross and Ann Harvett for the table decor (as well as everything else they do for Enlighten).
STOP PRESS
July 2010 – National Minister for Basic Education, Ms. Angie Motshekga, has announced a revised Curriculum (as part of the Schooling 2025 Plan, a strategy of the Department of Basic Education to improve the SA schooling system in the next 15 years)). The main focus will be on content and transfer of knowledge so that South African learners can become more competitive in the international arena. The focus also returns to the use of handbooks in the classroom. National Guidelines for teaching will be available from the Department in all the provinces. Most of the changes will take place during 2011 and 2012.

Bookworm Competition
July 2010 – The Bookworm Competition, as part of the Big Vision Project, was a great success. The learners from Kleinmond Laerskool were the overall winners and their Principal, Mr. Huisamen, received the main prize of a website for the school and website-support for one year from Brainwave IT, service provider from Cape Town.
Winter School
July 2020 – The Winter School, presented at the Enlighten Centre and at three schools for two weeks during the long school holidays, focused on teachers and learners from Grade 4-6. Teachers ran sessions for language, maths and science/technology. Training and reflecting sessions for the teachers have taken place. Even though the numbers of children attending classes were lower than expected at some of the schools, teachers indicated that they’ve benefitted immensely.
Enlighten used members of the community to prepare food for the hungry learners and teachers at the Zwelihle Primary School. The other schools did their own catering.
