STOP PRESS
July 2010 – National Minister for Basic Education, Ms. Angie Motshekga, has announced a revised Curriculum (as part of the Schooling 2025 Plan, a strategy of the Department of Basic Education to improve the SA schooling system in the next 15 years)). The main focus will be on content and transfer of knowledge so that South African learners can become more competitive in the international arena. The focus also returns to the use of handbooks in the classroom. National Guidelines for teaching will be available from the Department in all the provinces. Most of the changes will take place during 2011 and 2012.

This programme will be delivered at 4 primary schools and 4 pre-schools during 2010. The focus of the project is on HIV/Aids, Life Skills, Diversity and Values training. The schools have bought into the concept already and these life-size dolls have been ordered.
Mobile Computer Laboratory
A new project, funded by the Sunshine Foundation, started in February 2010. This hugely exciting and creative project which will be facilitated by Brainwave IT, Cape Town and managed by Enlighten, features a mobile unit, fitted with 30 workstations to be taken into 7 schools in the Overstrand. The primary focus of the project is the upgrading of Maths and Literacy skills in schools who cannot access facilities at the Enlighten centre. Both the EET labs will work in conjunction with each other.
Bringing a difference to life…
Enlighten Education Trust strives to improve the quality of education and life in the communities of the Overstrand. Enlighten Education Trust is unique in that we believe that the quality of education in general will not improve unless the problems in education are tackled from a variety of angles. For this reason Enlighten Education Trust intervenes in schools from management, curriculum, youth and social perspectives. Various projects are in place to support these initiatives. In addition to the various projects on the go, the Trust is involved in numerous activities that support their initiatives. NPO Number: 038 928 NPO PBO No 930003997 (REG IT 2621/ 2002)
