The van for the mobile library has been ordered.
Bookworm Competition
July 2010 – The Bookworm Competition, as part of the Big Vision Project, was a great success. The learners from Kleinmond Laerskool were the overall winners and their Principal, Mr. Huisamen, received the main prize of a website for the school and website-support for one year from Brainwave IT, service provider from Cape Town.
Ghandi Talk
Prof. Rajmohan Ghandi, grandson of Mahatma Ghandi, addressed an audience in the Enlighten Hall on the topic of “Trying to understand and Influence our Changing World.” Prof. Ghandi is currently serving a two-year term as President if “Initiatives of Change International”. This event, organised by U3A Hermanus, was one of the highlights on the Enlighten calendar and well attended by the communities.
Open Day 25th March 2010
The Enlighten Open Day, held on 25 March 2010, turned out to be a huge success. The afternoon kicked off with a very special ceremony where Henri Kuiper, the founder of EET, was honoured as the Life President of EET. Angela Heslop, Vice-Chairperson of EET, paid tribute to Henri who has, together with a committed team, established a credible and effective educational NGO in Hermanus. During the latter part of the afternoon, many visitors could enjoy what Enlighten has to offer. All venues were prepared and the EET facilitators were “on duty” to talk to the visitors. The afternoon was enjoyed and appreciated by all.
Enhancements to the EET Centre Building
The reconstruction of the Enlighten Hall is complete.
The hall features a Language and Numeracy Laboratory upstairs, catering for 24 students, as well as two additional training rooms downstairs.
The change has been welcomed by all and has transformed the hall into a friendly and attractive space for training.
Mounting of Mosaic Mural
After 2 1/2 months of translating our winning mosaic design onto panels we started mounting the 32 panels onto the 6 walls. Great excitement!!! It is as well that the traffic department recently put up a stop street on our corner as I am certain many accidents would happen as passing motorists admire the work of art. Well done to the team!!
We now hope the weather holds so that we can join the panels and grout them in time for our unveiling on 21st May 2009.
