National Science Week
More than 1 500 learners and 65 teachers attended the National Science Week events at the HMO – an all-time record and due in no small measure to the work which Amati put into this.
LITERACY/LANGUAGE LAB
Theron Mqhu began working as our new lab facilitator at the beginning of May. Already he has brought something different to the party in that he has made appointments at the schools in Zwelihle and assured educators that he can train them using Xhosa for explanatory purposes. A timetable has been established for him and we are also offering some time to OTI for the students in desperate need of literacy and numeracy support. Two small groups of learners attend from Bosko, the Grade 12’s from Hawston and from Qhayiya also, maths learners from lower grades at Qhayiya have started attending, and the group from Haygrove will begin in July. Mr Msebenzi from Masakhane has asked for some help for a group of his teachers and Theron is making arrangements to fit in these 12 teachers.

Congratulations Assessors!
Betsie and Lois have both been adjudged “competent” (as opposed to “not yet competent”!) by the ETDPSETA as Assessors and are being registered on the national database as such. Together with Frank and Shelley, we now have four Assessors on the staff. Both Frank and Shelley have expressed an interest in doing the Moderator’s training and we will follow this up next year.

Literacy / Numeracy Laboratory
The literacy/numeracy laboratory has been established. It is now kitted out with the computer system itself and the necessary software for literacy, numeracy and perceptual skills. The software is currently being evaluated.
