Hermanus Summer School
Enlighten Education Trust assisted with the organization and running of the Hermanus Summer School which ran from 5th – 20th December.

200 children attended and the programme included activities such as sports, games, art and craft workshops, music, drama and dance, environmental activities such as hiking and bird watching as well as educational activities.
Youth Volunteers who run the camp on a day to day basis included members of the Overstrand Junior Town Council, Hou Moed Recycle Swop Shop, Overstrand Training Institute as well as 5 Dutch volunteers from People4Change. Enlighten Education Trust sponsored the volunteer training camp of 30th November to 2nd December.
The summer school was a major project and useful lessons were learnt that will ensure a bigger and better event next year.

Bringing a difference to life…
Enlighten Education Trust strives to improve the quality of education and life in the communities of the Overstrand. Enlighten Education Trust is unique in that we believe that the quality of education in general will not improve unless the problems in education are tackled from a variety of angles. For this reason Enlighten Education Trust intervenes in schools from management, curriculum, youth and social perspectives. Various projects are in place to support these initiatives. In addition to the various projects on the go, the Trust is involved in numerous activities that support their initiatives. NPO Number: 038 928 NPO PBO No 930003997 (REG IT 2621/ 2002)
Teacher Awards Ceremony
The Teacher Merit Awards Ceremony took place on the 22nd November. This was a very happy occasion and a good way to end our work with the schools for the year. The catering which was done by the new OTI hospitality trainer was excellent – both in terms of product and in terms of presentation. The chocolate turnovers were an absolute hit. The function had the added benefit of drawing to many people’s attention the range and intensity of our work.
