School Management
School Management and Development
The Western Cape Education Department requires that all schools in the province produce a 5-year School Development Plan. This is a detailed document which states the vision and mission of the school, the goals which it has for the next 5 years, time frames for achieving these goals, tasks allocated to specific personnel, and budgets needed for each priority. All school stakeholders – Principals, Heads of Department (HODs), Staff, School Governing Body (SGB) members, Learners' Representative Council (LRC) members and parent representatives must be part of the process of developing and taking ownership of this plan. Enlighten has worked with schools to see that not only is this document relevant and realistic but that it is implemented effectively. Implementation has been our focus for the past year, together with management at classroom level as Enlighten's experience has shown that this is generally where the system breaks down.
School Management and Development Projects:
• EQUIP – 7 schools in the Hermanus area
• DIRECT – 6 schools in the Overstrand region
EQUIP and DIRECT dealt with the whole school development and management according to the 9 focus areas stipulated by the Department of Education. Focus areas include financial management and administration, safety and security at schools, SGB Management, community and parent involvement, teaching and learning.
