Hawston Steel Pan Band play at World Cup
June / july 2010 – The Hawston Steel Pan band, taught and mentored by the Enlighten Music team, played at various World Cup venues, which included 14 performances. This was hugely exciting for the band members and required extra hard work and commitment from all parties involved.
Education Conference – Kampala
July 2010 – In between the World Cup festivities and the school holidays, Lois attended an Educator conference in Kampala, Uganda, for a few days. The Flora Family Foundation from the USA invited all their grantees with the purpose of discussing lessons learned, successes and challenges, which had impacted on the various organisations. One of the many highlights was meeting people from all over Africa, who grapple with the same issues relating to education.
Enlighten Video on YouTube
A very short video (15 min), depicting the work of Enlighten, was posted on youtube as part of a fundraising competition organised by the Flora Family Foundation in the US. If chosen as the winning entry, EET will raise substantial funding for some of its projects.
Lois will use the video for the presentation to be made in Kampala in June

World Cup Soccer Fever
Staff, the community and students joined in to a session in the Enlighten Hall to learn the Diski Dance. Much fun was had.
We hope that all the goodwill and funding that have been spent on World Cup efforts, will have positive spin-offs in so many of our poverty stricken communities. May the spirit of goodwill and cooperation continue long after the Cup has gone!
