A Mosaic Workshop was held at the Stanford Community Centre on 7th November from 5.30 until 9.00pm. There were 7 youth between the age of 18 – 25 (and one of 17). I was impressed that 7 out of 10 attended as they had to find their own transport and it was pouring buckets.
Lara Levine from Mila Mosaics facilitated – the theme was “The Sun” and the students had to design, cut, place and paste the glass mosaics to create their art works on a 23cm square board. Everyone was a little nervous to start but soon all settled in to the most enjoyable and exciting evening. Aron Gcotylelwa who organised the Stanford youth gave a little speech at the end – thanking us for introducing them to this new world and in his words “Stanford has been going for 150 years and this is the first time someone has done something like this for the community”.
