The Shine chapter at Lukhanyo Primary is yet another successful project of the Enlighten Education trust. It has been operating since 2015.
Its objective is to generate a love of reading and of books and reading. A group of volunteers works with Grade 2 learners four days a week.
Under the leadership of Enligthen Education Trust’s Rothea Kleynhans 26 volunteers and the learners work through a year-long weekly programme of fun activities on the basis of one adult to two children. Not only do they build up a close relationship with one another and achieve exceptional results, but there is a wonderful flowering of self-confidence in the children.
A group of dedicated volunteers is essential for the success of such a project.
If you would like to become a member of this happy band of Shine volunteers, even on a back-up basis when someone is away, please contact Rothea on 082 327 3531.

Each of the 200 Grade 2 learners received their own book to take home. The books were a donation from MySchool-My Village-MyPlanet and Woolworths.
